Mechanism
Bistability
TL;DR
Recognize that organizations often exist in binary coordination states.
Bistability means cells exist in one of two stable states: the OFF state has low autoinducer and no quorum response, while the ON state has high autoinducer and active quorum response. Cells rapidly switch between states once threshold is crossed. This creates abrupt transitions rather than gradual responses.
Business Application of Bistability
Recognize that organizations often exist in binary coordination states. Design systems where the transition from uncoordinated to coordinated is rapid and decisive rather than gradual and ambiguous.
