PDCA Cycle (Plan-Do-Check-Act)

Origin: Deming / Shewhart

Biological Parallel

Foraging follows the PDCA cycle: predators plan the hunt (wolves coordinate positions), execute the chase (do), evaluate success rate (check—did we catch prey?), and adjust strategy (act—change tactics if failure rate is high). Bees perform waggle dances (plan—communicate food location), send scouts to verify (do), assess nectar quality (check), and recruit workers accordingly (act). Evolution itself is a massive PDCA loop: mutations plan new traits, organisms do life, survival checks performance, and successful genes act by spreading. PDCA formalizes biology's universal learning algorithm.
