Opportunity Solution Tree
Origin: Teresa Torres
Biological Parallel
Oak trees don't grow randomly—apical dominance creates a hierarchical branching structure where the main trunk (desired outcome) suppresses lateral branches until they're needed, then each branch explores different light opportunities (solutions) while maintaining connection to the root system (user needs). The tree's architecture maps opportunities (light gaps in the canopy) to solutions (branch angles, leaf density) without losing sight of the foundational need (water, nutrients). This branching logic explains why successful exploration requires both structure and flexibility.
