Signify is a lighting company spun off from Philips Lighting in 2016. The company pioneered 'light as a service' for commercial customers, retaining ownership of fixtures while charging for illumination services. This model creates alignment where customers pay for light (the actual need) rather than fixtures, and Signify has incentive to maximize fixture lifespan and efficiency.

The Schiphol Airport contract (2015, 15-year term) exemplifies this approach, delivering 75% energy savings, 99.5% uptime guarantees, and capturing all fixtures for recycling when replaced.
