Blockbuster
Blockbuster's 2010 bankruptcy collapsed the 9,000-store video rental empire that twice rejected buying Netflix. At peak, Blockbuster had $6 billion in revenue and 60,000 employees. But the company's late fee model alienated customers, and its stores couldn't compete with Netflix's mail and streaming convenience. Blockbuster's failed online and kiosk responses came too late. Dish Network bought the remains for $320 million. One Blockbuster store remains in Bend, Oregon, as a tourist attraction.
