Lignotubers

TL;DR

Eucalyptus lignotubers survive 800°C fires by sitting 10cm underground where temperatures stay below 100°C. Apple's brand equity and design DNA survived near-bankruptcy in 1997 - protected reserves that enabled regeneration when Steve Jobs returned.

Underground woody bunkers packed with dormant buds and stored energy at shrub base. Lignotubers sit underground or at soil surface, insulated from fire heat. Buds survive 800°C fire because soil temperature 10cm below surface stays <100°C. Post-fire, buds activate using stored energy to produce new shoots.

Business Application of Lignotubers

Organizations need protected reserves of capability and resources - 'bunkers' of talent, cash, and institutional knowledge insulated from surface-level crises - that can activate when conditions change.
