Tuyen Quang

Tuyen Quang exists because the Lo River carved through the northern midlands creating valleys where ethnic minority communities developed distinctive agriculture—Ham Yen oranges, Na Hang Shan Tuyet tea, forest honey—that now anchor a tourism economy welcoming 3.2 million visitors in the first 10 months of 2025. UN Tourism's recognition of Lo Lo Chai village as one of the "World's Best Tourist Villages 2025" validates this green development strategy.

The formation story is forestry meeting tourism. The province completed planting 6 million trees by early June 2025—one year ahead of the Prime Minister's "billion trees" project schedule. Concentrated afforestation reached 9,300 hectares; planted forest wood extraction hit 620,000 m³. This forest base enables the Green Tourism Development Strategy (2025-2035) targeting sustainable highland tourism.

The 2025 economic performance tracks planning: GRDP grew 6.83% in the first nine months, with services leading at 8.38% growth. The province targets 10.5% growth for the full year. Industrial production value reached VND 13,727 billion (first half); export value hit $93.1 million. The four pillars—digital economy, green economy, circular economy, and tourism—guide development toward 2030.

The June 2025 merger with Ha Giang province created a combined entity of 1.87 million people across 13,795 km²—concentrating two UNESCO geoparks (Dong Van and Na Hang-Lam Binh) under unified administration. The Tuyen Quang Green Tourism criteria will apply across this expanded territory.

By 2026, the merged province aims to become "fairly developed, comprehensive, and sustainable." Lo Lo Chai's global recognition demonstrates that ethnic minority heritage can attract international tourism. Whether green development scales without degrading the landscapes tourists seek will test the strategy at expanded scale.
