Hunan's GDP reached 5.32 trillion yuan in 2024 (~US$747 billion), ranking 9th nationally and 3rd in Central China (after Henan and Hubei). The province appears in the world's top 20 sub-national economies (GDP PPP over $1.55 trillion). Changsha's GDP hit 1.53 trillion yuan (28.66% of province), contributing 5.46 trillion yuan from industry. Six 100-billion-yuan industrial clusters anchor the economy: advanced energy storage materials, engineering machinery, electronic information, automotive/parts, new materials, and food/tobacco processing.
