Jaboatao dos Guararapes looks like a standalone city on paper, but economically it behaves more like Recife's southern bodywork. The more useful fact is that Jaboatao sits exactly where Recife's physical limits, airport corridor, and Suape-bound logistics spill outward.
That spillover keeps compounding. Recife has the prestige core; Jaboatao absorbs the uses that need room, road access, cheaper land, or simply proximity without Recife's constraints. Industries, warehouses, retail strips, commuters, and hotel zones stack along BR-101, metro lines, and the coast. Pernambuco planning documents place the municipality inside Suape's strategic influence area, which means Jaboatao captures traffic moving between the capital and the state's main industrial-port complex. In other words, it makes money from adjacency.
That is the Wikipedia gap. Jaboatao is not merely Pernambuco's second city. It is a commensal municipality attached to a larger metropolitan host.
