Anapolis

TL;DR

Anapolis's dry port handled US$1.5 billion of imports in half a year and anchors a pharma-logistics cluster that processes much of Goias's traffic.

City in State of Goias

By Alex Denne

Anapolis is where much of Goias's imported industrial traffic gets sorted before it moves inland. The municipality sits 1,003 metres above sea level and has a verified population of about 420,300, far above the older GeoNames figure of 319,587. Most city summaries mention industry in general. They understate how concentrated the logistics machinery is. The Porto Seco Centro-Oeste in Anapolis handled US$1.5 billion in imports in the first half of 2025 alone, representing 54% of all Goias imports. In the same period it moved more than 905 thousand tonnes of cargo and nearly doubled internal movements to 11,640.

That hub sits beside the Distrito Agroindustrial de Anapolis, which is still expanding. Goias says DAIA 5.0 added 1.7 million square metres for 100 new companies and 20,000 planned jobs, while Codego invested R$20 million in new reservoirs to protect the district's water supply and selected eight more firms in 2025 for the logistics platform with R$93.4 million of investment and 700 direct jobs. The city is also one of Brazil's pharmaceutical production nodes: state reporting on Brainfarma alone describes a R$416 million sterile-drug plant with capacity for 38 million units a year.

This is the Wikipedia gap. Anapolis is not merely a big inland city. It is where customs, drugs, machinery, and distribution are concentrated so goods can jump from the coast-and-Sao-Paulo economy into the Center-West. Biologically it behaves like a leafcutter-ant colony. The ants do not eat the leaves directly; they harvest, sort, and route material to feed a central processing system. Source-sink dynamics pull imports, grain, and industrial inputs into Anapolis and send finished goods back out. Network effects keep pharma plants, warehouses, rail connections, and customs services in the same place. Resource allocation decides which land, water, and logistics capacity stay devoted to processing. Break that node, and a large part of Goias has to reroute.

Underappreciated Fact
