When to Use Regeneration Readiness Assessment
After a crisis to determine strategic path forward. When deciding whether to rebuild from existing core or pivot to new business. When assessing acquisition targets that have experienced distress.
How to Apply
The Root System Test (Dimension 1)
Assess whether fundamental organizational value survived the crisis. Rate 0-10 each: Brand equity (customer recognition and trust), Customer relationships (retention through crisis), Core capabilities (key talent, technology, processes).
Questions to Ask
- Do customers still recognize and trust your brand?
- Did you retain >70% of customers through the crisis?
- Do you still have key talent, technology, processes that made you successful?

Energy Reserves (Dimension 2)
Assess resources available to fund regeneration. Rate 0-10 each: Cash/financing (runway in months), Key talent (leadership retention), Strategic assets (IP, data, infrastructure, partnerships).

- Do you have 12+ months runway?
- Did leadership team stay through crisis?
- Do you own valuable IP, data, infrastructure, partnerships?

Ecological Niche Viability (Dimension 3)
Assess whether market opportunity still exists. Rate 0-10 each: Market demand (growth trajectory), Competition (market concentration), Regulatory environment (favorable vs hostile).
Questions to Ask
- Is market for your product growing, stable, or declining?
- Is market dominated or fragmented?
- Are regulations favorable, neutral, or hostile?

- Niche Viability Score: 0-30 points
Calculate Regeneration Readiness Score
Sum all three dimensions. 70-90: High potential - execute regeneration playbook. 40-69: Moderate potential - regeneration possible but challenging. 0-39: Low potential - consider reinvention or exit.
