Taxis
Directed movement of an organism in response to a stimulus. Distinguished from tropism (growth movement) because taxis involves actual locomotion. The direction of movement relates to the stimulus direction.
Used in the Books
This term appears in 3 chapters:
"...her, they created infrastructure that transformed Kenya's economy. The result: Kenya leapfrogged the developed world in financial inclusion. Nairobi taxi drivers accept M-Pesa. Rural farmers receive crop payments instantly. Small businesses build credit histories."
"...cies diagnostic, you're under attack. Defense strategies: 1. Regulatory capture: Lobby for rules that disadvantage the invader. Traditional taxis lobbied against Uber/Lyft. Hotels lobbied against short-term rental platforms. This works temporarily but rarely stops invasives permanently. 2."
"This works because real-time visibility into rider demand and driver supply enables dynamic matching impossible in traditional taxi systems with radio dispatch. Implication: Real-time visibility plus rapid response can substitute for buffer redundancy in some contexts."
Biological Context
Phototaxis: movement toward or away from light. Chemotaxis: movement toward or away from chemicals. Thermotaxis: movement toward preferred temperatures. Taxis allows organisms to navigate toward favorable conditions and away from threats.
Business Application
Corporate taxis: organizational movement toward favorable conditions. Companies migrate toward favorable tax jurisdictions, talent pools, and market opportunities. Unlike tropism (slow growth direction), taxis can be rapid relocation.
