Used in the Books

This term appears in 2 chapters:

Biological Context

Stratification breaks seed dormancy in many temperate species. Seeds may require weeks to months of cold (1-5°C) while moist. The process triggers hormonal changes that prepare the embryo for growth. Nurseries artificially stratify seeds in refrigerators.

Business Application

Some business opportunities require a 'stratification period' before they're ready. Market conditions, technology maturity, or regulatory frameworks may need time to develop before an idea can germinate successfully.
