Hub (Network)
A node in a network with significantly more connections than average. Hubs are central points through which much of the network's traffic or influence flows.
Biological Context
In metabolic networks, certain molecules like ATP are hubs connected to many reactions. In food webs, keystone species often function as hubs. Hubs make networks efficient but also vulnerable—removing hubs can fragment networks while removing random nodes has little effect.
