Zweig's Rule
Origin: Martin Zweig
Biological Parallel
Migrating birds don't fight headwinds—when wind patterns shift unfavorably, they land and wait. Fighting adverse conditions burns energy faster than waiting for favorable flows. This 'don't fight the tape' strategy is metabolically optimal: environmental momentum (prevailing winds, ocean currents) overwhelms individual effort. Zweig's Rule ('don't fight the Fed') applies identical logic: when institutional momentum (monetary policy) runs counter to your position, the energy cost of resistance exceeds the benefit of persistence—align with prevailing forces or wait.
