The Value Proposition Canvas maps how products create value for customers—jobs to be done, pains, gains—against features that address them. Hummingbird bill length precisely matches flower corolla depth: the sword-billed hummingbird's 10cm bill (feature) addresses the job of reaching nectar in long tubular flowers (customer need) that shorter-billed competitors can't access (pain point). Pitcher plants offer drowning pools (feature) to digest insects (gain) that walk on slippery wax surfaces (pain point addressed). Cleaner wrasse offer parasite removal (feature) to larger fish at cleaning stations (job to be done), gaining food while clients gain health. Perfect value proposition alignment means every morphological feature maps to a specific ecological need—misalignment means extinction.
