Unity principle

Origin: Cialdini, 2016

Biological Parallel

Kin selection explains altruism: 'I would die for two brothers or eight cousins' (Haldane). Shared genes create unity—organisms preferentially help genetic relatives. But unity extends beyond kinship: ants recognize nest-mates by chemical signatures, wolves bond through shared hunts, primates groom within their coalition. Shared identity markers—genetic, chemical, behavioral—trigger cooperation algorithms. Humans inherit this: unity cues (team jerseys, dialects, rituals) activate ancient ingroup bias.
