Unity (7th Principle)
Origin: Cialdini (2016)
Biological Parallel
Ants from the same colony recognize nestmates through shared chemical signatures—colony odor derived from common diet and queen pheromones. This unity marker determines life or death: nestmates are defended, outsiders attacked. Unity isn't abstract belonging—it's biochemical identity verification. Humans inherit this: shared identity (team, tribe, brand) triggers in-group favoritism and cooperation. Marketing creates artificial unity through logos, rituals, and insider language—synthetic colony odor.
