Chimpanzee troops sometimes produce exceptionally intelligent males who solve novel problems (tool use, food access) but attack allies and hoard resources—these 'brilliant jerks' get overthrown or killed despite their cognitive gifts. The troop cannot afford individuals who undermine cooperation even if they're smart, because primate survival depends on coalition stability more than individual genius. Netflix's policy mirrors chimpanzee group selection: cooperation is non-negotiable infrastructure, and brilliance that corrodes it is more expensive than the problems it solves.
