DMAIC
Origin: Six Sigma methodology
Biological Parallel
The scientific method is biological DMAIC: Darwin defined the problem (species variation), measured finch beaks across Galápagos islands, analyzed patterns (beak depth correlates with seed hardness), improved the theory (natural selection mechanism), and controlled through prediction (evolution should produce new adaptations). The immune system follows DMAIC: define the pathogen (antigen recognition), measure the threat (inflammatory response), analyze the attack strategy (antibody selection), improve the weapon (somatic hypermutation), and control through memory cells. DMAIC formalizes biology's problem-solving algorithm: systematic investigation beats random experimentation.
