Build-Measure-Learn

Origin: Eric Ries

Biological Parallel

Phototropism demonstrates build-measure-learn at cellular speed: a seedling grows toward light, measures the light gradient via photoreceptors, then adjusts growth hormones to bend further toward the signal. Each growth increment is an experiment; each measurement refines the next move. Plants that iterate faster—measuring light direction every few hours rather than daily—reach sunlight before their competitors and survive.
