Atomic Network

Origin: Andrew Chen

Biological Parallel

An atomic network is the minimum viable unit that creates value—what mycologists call a mycelial node. A single fungal spore can't decompose wood alone, but when multiple hyphae converge at a nutrient source, they form a functional decomposition unit. Similarly, prairie dog towns require a minimum 'atomic network' of 8-10 individuals: fewer than that and sentinel behavior, burrow maintenance, and predator dilution collapse. Below the atomic threshold, the network provides no advantage; at threshold, emergent properties suddenly activate.
