Xerox PARC Inventions

Technology · Founded 1970

Xerox PARC invented the graphical user interface, mouse, ethernet, and laser printing - then watched others commercialize everything except laser printing. Apple's Macintosh and Microsoft Windows used PARC's GUI concepts. Xerox demonstrated the corporate R&D tragedy: inventing technologies the parent company doesn't exploit while competitors do. The inventions succeeded; Xerox just didn't benefit.
