US Airways

Aviation · Founded 1939

US Airways' 2013 merger with American Airlines created the world's largest airline but ended the US Airways brand. The company had emerged from two bankruptcies (2002, 2004) through CEO Doug Parker's leadership. Rather than fail again, US Airways executed a reverse takeover of American Airlines - the bankrupt airline's management ended up running the combined company. US Airways demonstrated that bankruptcy can create opportunity if leadership executes during the crisis.
