Tower Automotive's 2005 bankruptcy collapsed another auto parts supplier dependent on the Big Three. The company made metal body structures and suspension components. When Ford and GM cut production volumes, Tower couldn't cover fixed costs on reduced volumes. The company emerged from bankruptcy in 2007 after closing plants and cutting workforce. Tower's story was indistinguishable from dozens of other auto suppliers caught in the 2005-2009 industry contraction.
