South African Airways entered business rescue (South Africa's bankruptcy equivalent) in 2019 after years of losses, mismanagement, and corruption. The state-owned airline couldn't compete while carrying political mandates and corrupt contracts from the Zuma era. The mechanism failure was state capture destroying operational viability.
