Shyp raised $62M to let consumers photograph items and have them picked up, packaged, and shipped. The company discovered that the customers who most wanted this service generated the lowest margins—frequent shippers already had efficient processes, while occasional shippers weren't worth the pickup cost. Like an organism that can only catch prey that isn't worth eating, Shyp's market was structurally unprofitable.
