Musicland's 2006 bankruptcy collapsed Sam Goody, Suncoast, and Media Play stores after Best Buy sold the chain for $408 million less than it paid. The company had been in decline since Napster proved consumers wanted digital music. Best Buy couldn't turn around what technology had made obsolete. Liquidation closed all stores. Sam Goody joined Tower Records and Virgin Megastores in the 2006-2009 physical music retail extinction.
