Rocky Mountain News' 2009 closure after 150 years demonstrates how two-newspaper towns became no-newspaper towns. Denver's older paper couldn't survive sharing advertising with the Denver Post; neither could support the other. Like symbiotic species that become competitors when resources shrink, the two papers cannibalized each other until one died.
