Rainier Brewing Company
Rainier Brewing's 1999 Seattle brewery closure ended local production of the Pacific Northwest icon. Successive owners (Heileman, Stroh, Pabst) moved production elsewhere. The Rainier brand survives, contract-brewed far from Mount Rainier. The company that created iconic motorcycle-hopping-across-puddles commercials became another brand in Pabst's portfolio. Rainier demonstrated that regional brand love doesn't translate to competitive survival.
