Pontiac
Pontiac's 2010 discontinuation ended an 84-year-old brand as part of GM's bankruptcy restructuring. The brand that had been GM's 'excitement' division - muscle cars, Trans Ams, and GTOs - had lost identity by 2009, sharing platforms with Chevrolet without differentiation. GM couldn't justify four brands (Chevrolet, Buick, GMC, Cadillac) plus Pontiac. The last Pontiac G6 rolled off the line in 2010. Pontiac demonstrated that brands without clear positioning face extinction when resources contract.
