Kaiser-Frazer

Automotive · Founded 1945

Kaiser-Frazer's 1953 exit from U.S. car production ended Henry J. Kaiser's attempt to break the Big Three's dominance. The company that built Liberty ships faster than U-boats could sink them couldn't transfer industrial efficiency to automobiles. Model changes required capital Kaiser didn't have. The company retreated to Argentina before Renault acquired it. Kaiser-Frazer demonstrated that different industries require different capabilities; manufacturing excellence doesn't transfer.
