Frontier's 2020 bankruptcy after acquiring Verizon's landlines demonstrates how legacy telecom assets can be poisoned pills. The rural carrier bought FiOS networks from Verizon but couldn't service the debt taken to acquire them. Like an organism that consumes prey too large to digest, Frontier was killed by its acquisition rather than strengthened by it.
