Crosley Motors
Crosley's 1952 closure ended Powel Crosley Jr.'s attempt to sell Americans on small, fuel-efficient cars. The Crosley was decades ahead of its time - tiny, economical, innovative. But postwar America wanted big cars. Crosley sold fewer than 25,000 vehicles in its best year. The market that eventually embraced small cars wouldn't arrive for 30 years. Crosley demonstrated that being right about the future doesn't create survival if you're too early.
