2+ hours uninterrupted: 2.5× more code written

By Alex Denne

This large-scale study of 30,000 Microsoft employees provided empirical validation for the maker's schedule concept. Researchers found that makers with 2+ hours of uninterrupted time wrote 2.5× more code, while those with less than 1-hour blocks reported 73% inability to complete complex tasks.

The study also revealed that the average knowledge worker has only 37 minutes between meetings - far too short for meaningful deep work - explaining widespread complaints about meeting overload.
